Honest Batiste Dry Shampoo Reviews – Dry Hair Shampoo For Thinning Hair?

Why on earth are you reviewing a dry shampoo and what’s it got to do with hair loss?
Well, truth be told, this was an accidental discovery!
One day I had particularly greasy hair but no time for a shower and my girlfriend assaulted my hair with some sort of spray (it comes out like hair spray or deodorant basically). I was quite taken aback and a bit appalled at what I immediately called “some girly spray crap”. However, I realised that the ‘greasiness’ of my hair vanished. Batiste Dry Shampoo had done its job. Bizarre. I had no idea what the science was behind it, and didn’t particularly care at the time. We went out and I thought nothing more of it.
A few weeks later, extremely hungover after a (showerless) music festival, I was faced with the the prospect of meeting her parents for dinner with almost zero notice. She again suggested that I use this dry shampoo spray. Again, I was a male cliche of “I’m not using some girly hair product” but I eventually relented and sprayed it in.
It was then that I realised a couple of things. Not only was it incredible at removing any hint of hangover/greasy hair…BUT…and this was the revelation, it actually massively volumized my hair. It was as if the bedraggled haggard thin greasy hair upon my head had transformed into a lustrous colony of vivacious wonder!
What’s in it and is it safe?
In answer to the first part of the question…this stuff…
In answer to the second part of the question…yes. See further info on the safety of the ingredients HERE. I only use it sparingly, like every week or two and I’ve been using it for about six months or so without any issues.
How does dry shampoo work?
It’s quite simple actually. Nothing massively revolutionary. Basically, the alcohol or starch in the product (depending on what brand etc) soaks up the excess oil and grease in your hair. Badda bing badda boom!
Pros and cons
The cons aren’t immediately obvious. The price is very reasonable. The ingredients are safe for use. The only con that immediately comes to mind is perhaps becoming psychologically dependent on it. I have no idea whether it functions as well if it’s used every day, or whether you should be using it every day. Especially when the alternative exists of actually shampooing your hair normally using Nizoral or any of the other ketoconazole carrying shampoos (that have been proven to work in clinical trials).
For me though, my hair gets greasy very quickly, and as a consequence can look thinner when it’s sort of greased/matted together, so it’s a valuable addition to the arsenal if I’m in a rush, and incredibly quick and easy to use. I believe that some of the other brands leave a sticky residue but this one absolutely doesn’t. It’s dry and simple and genuinely works a treat at little cost. And adds volume when you use it even without your hair being greasy.
At the low price point and with no known side effects or harmful consequences what have you got to lose? It was a bizarre accidental discovery but I’ve been very thankful for it on a number of occasions now (am I coming off like somebody afraid of showering? Probably a little!) and found it really effective for both adding volume and providing the ‘appearance of cleanliness’ to my hair. Thumbs up from me. It gets a 9 out of 10. I’m unfairly taking points off because I used to feel like a fool buying it in the shop, it seeming too girly for a man to buy, so I now order it from Amazon. I use the Dark & Deep Brown one here.
